How Service Can Boost Your Spiritual Journey

I am jobless now and this is creating uneasiness as many suppressed desires are manifesting and creating contaminating my consciousness. It is now very clear to me that lack of service is one of the key motivators that cause devotees to lose their faith in Krishna. Look at the things around you, kala is passing by so is prakriti, all these being done by the almighty bhagwanta. This fact must ring in the realization that the state of inactiveness is not present in the lord, he is always active (Changing material nature and passing time). And being lazy/inactive is thus something unnatural to one’s existence (it suppresses the changing of material energy on the physical level). At present I observe that the extent of my restlessness has decreased as I am writing this.

Basically, action and variety in action are the ways ahead to living a content life that allows for spiritual progress. This action should make a visible and measurable impact on others which motivates one to act more. This is the reason why selfless service is the highest action propagated in all the religions of the world. All your karmic necessities to perform actions get dovetailed into the service of the Krishna which convert your work into a supercharged sadhana that pushes you ahead on your spiritual path.

Has anyone ever thought why things are so balanced and that they don’t fall apart? Whenever a complex organization is working efficiently, it is doing so due to the presence of a strong leader who is inspiring the members and leading the way. But for some reason we don’t want to give credit to the main cause behind our bodies being held together by the physical forces (why don’t these forces just take a break and stop acting or change the way they are acting?) when everything that we do is motivated by some purpose, why don’t we accept that every doing that is done by nature also has some purpose behind it and thus is a personality of it’s own. It takes intelligence to understand nature’s work but wouldn’t it take one to make it?

Is this intelligence a person? Humans are intelligent, are they persons? Yes they are, but then what if the lord is like an ANN just a cold rational intelligence with no feelings? If that is so, then why do we have feelings? Have humans ever been able to make something that they themselves cannot comprehend or understand? How can a cold rational intelligence make something like consciousness which it itself cannot comprehend? To understand this we need to understand bhagwanta as a person, he has two faces one is the perfect executive who makes this whole universe work perfectly just like an intelligent machine but on the other side he also has a personal side which can only be seen by those who understand him.

And that is the crux of the whole spiritual process, we do everything that we can to understand the working of the creator and when we reach that state of perfect understanding, we naturally surrender and become liberated. How to understand this person? It is not that easy. To get 5mins of Bill Gate’s time you should be the best among the qualified people who can contribute to his cause while we accept this, we are not ready to accept that liberation and achieving Krishna consciousness requires hard work and qualification. This attitude needs to go and that is the first step.
